Help beat anti social behaviour with your phone

Coventry's anti social behaviour (ASB) reporting line has been re-launched following extensive improvements.

Relaunching the It's Your Call service

The new, local service - called It's Your Call - has a Coventry phone number (024 7683 1300) for the first time.

It has been redesigned to make it easier for people to report the different types of ASB. From litter in the street, to graffiti and vandalism, nuisance neighbours to underage drinking, people can now report it to It's Your Call.

The re-launched service will also provide the Community Safety Partnership - a body created by law to bring together local agencies, businesses and residents to cut crime - with a greater understanding of patterns of ASB across the city.

It's Your Call forms part of the Home Office's Anti-Social Behaviour Unit's Action plan, which aims to improve public accessibility to services that tackle anti-social behaviour.

All calls are vital as it will provide valuable intelligence in identifying ASB problems across the city which will then be targeted by appropriate partners or agencies.

The new service replaces a national number which was originally launched in 2005 and calls will be handled by the City Council's Coventry Direct service.

In Coventry the line operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week and all reports will be referred to appropriate agencies. These include council departments such as City Services and Neighbourhood Management and external agencies such as West Midlands Police, West Midlands Fire Service, Youth Offending Services and registered social landlords such as Whitefriars Housing Group.

Cllr Tony O'Neill, Deputy Leader of Coventry City Council, believes the re-launched reporting line will provide a better service for residents across the city.

He said: "Its Your Call is a reporting service to register incidents of anti social behaviour in all its forms where you live or work. The service does not trigger an immediate response and calls that require instant assistance will still need to be reported to the police or other appropriate agency.

"Information from the community is vital if we are to tackle, and not tolerate, unacceptable behaviour that can blight neighbourhoods and have a negative impact on people's everyday lives.

"The service is a reporting line because gathering intelligence about a particular problem that can be used at a later date, such as court proceedings or undercover operations, is a key ingredient in beating ASB.

"The causes and consequences of Anti Social Behaviour are complex and best tackled by a number of agencies working together and vigilance from the community is a key part of that."

Cllr O'Neill added: "Whether it is litter in the street, graffiti and/or vandalism in the park or nuisance neighbours next door, It's Your Call means you do not have to tolerate it."
