Domestic violence and hate crime tools and resources

Local Domestic Violence and Abuse Services

Domestic Violence and Abuse is any violence or abusive behaviour, whether physical, sexual, psychological, emotional, financial; or verbal, which is used by one person to control and dominate another with whom they have or have had an intimate or family type relationship.

There are a number of services on Coventry which can support people affected by Domestic Violence and Abuse.

Services for Victims

Refuges and Supported Accommodation

Refuges and supported accommodation provide safe emergency housing and support to women (aged 16 and over) and children escaping domestic violence and abuse. Addresses are confidential and based within Coventry City.

Staying Put Project

The Staying Put Project provides ongoing emotional and practical support, and the installation of home security measures, to support victims to remain living safely in their own homes once they have ended their relationship. The project is for all female and male victims of domestic violence and abuse aged from 16 who are living in any type of property within Coventry. The project accepts both self referrals and referrals from any agency

Independent Domestic Violence Advisors (IDVAs)

The IDVAs provide support to victims of domestic violence and abuse who are accessing the criminal justice system and need support during criminal or civil legal proceedings. The IDVA can provide support during court hearings, act as an advocate and refer victims to a range of other specialist agencies and support. The project is for all female and male victims of domestic violence and abuse aged from 16 and accepts both self referrals and referrals from any agency

The Key Project

The Key Project provides ongoing emotional and practical support to Black, Asian, Minority Ethnic and Refugee (BAMER) victims of domestic violence and abuse who are living in the community. The project is culturally sensitive and works in partnership with specialist BAMER agencies.  The project is for all BAMER female and male victims of domestic violence and abuse aged from 16 and accepts both self referrals and referrals from any agency

Independent Sexual Violence Advisors (ISVAs)

The ISVAs provide support to victims of sexual violence who are accessing the criminal justice system or need support with a range of emotional and practical issues. The project is available to all female and male victims of sexual violence aged from 11 years and accepts both self referrals and referrals from any agency

Coventry Rape and Sexual Abuse Centre (CRASAC)

CRASAC provide a range of support services for victims of sexual violence including a helpline and counselling services

Relate

Relate provide individual relationship counselling, couple counselling, family counselling and psychosexual therapy. Couple counselling is not suitable where there is current domestic violence and abuse

Services for Perpetrators

The Bridge

The Bridge provides a voluntary group programme for male perpetrators of domestic violence and abuse who want to end their behaviour and a separate confidential support service for their female partners

The project accepts both agency and self referrals and is run by Relate Coventry Tel: 024 76 225 863.

Respect

A helpline offering information and advice to people who are abusive towards their partners and want help to stop

The Shed

A project providing individual and group work for young people who are at risk of being abusive in their relationships

Services for Children

Defuze

Defuze provide support to children and young people affected by domestic violence and abuse including one to one work and group work.

Referrals can be made via any agency including schools, youth workers and doctors

Time For You provides counselling for children and young people aged 5 -25 on a range of issues including domestic violence and abuse
