A new campaign designed to keep the streets clean and safe in Coventry is being piloted in the Paradise area of the city on 21 July.
"Care 4 Your Area" will combine a process of assistance to residents with education to ensure that streets are easy to clean, kept free of litter, fly-tipping and wheelie bins. This will help to bring back into use alleyways which are currently blocked.
Side waste is often ripped open by animals creating more litter. Evidence shows that an untidy environment makes the dropping of litter more likely. Wheelie bins left on the street have been subject to arson attacks in the past. In some cases they have been pushed against doors and set alight.
In many areas where wheelie bins are left on the pavement, rear private alleyways are blocked with rubbish. This not only generates customer complaints, it also acts as a breeding ground for rodents and is a fire risk.
This is a Coventry Community Safety Partnership project jointly delivered by Coventry City Council (Environmental Crime Unit, Street Pride and Neighbourhood Management), The Consortium of Registered Social Landlords, West Midlands Fire Service and the Probation Service (Community Payback).
